Deputy Spokesman Isaac Albert: “This legislature only makes sense if we can progress with the country’s strategic issues”

Esquerra obtains greater resources for the Catalan language, nursery schools and housing rehabilitation, progress in the singular financing scheme and the transfer of Rodalies suburban rail, and more investment in sports

Esquerra Republicana has accorded with the Catalan Generalitat government on a third supplementary credit of €460 million in order to progress with the fulfilment of strategic pacts for the country, which Esquerra has called for since the beginning of the legislature in order for the country to increase in its sovereignty and independence when managing its own public services. “We assume the responsibility and leadership in raising the national ambition of the country, ensuring the pacts respond to the needs of the country,” said Esquerra’s deputy spokesman Isaac Albert at a press conference today.

In this regard, Isaac Albert wished to make Esquerra’s role in opposition very clear. “This is not about giving the government stability, this is about continuing to build the country and for this country to be ever more convinced of its opportunities, its strengths, and to be more independent in the management of its services.”

The agreement between both parties, which was specified in three decree laws incorporating credit for the government of Catalonia between the months of March and June, is based on:

  • the determination that the key elements agreed upon in the pact for the investiture of President Illa are going ahead as required and that the milestones are being defined jointly,
  • the will to ensure appropriate provision of public services as guaranteed by the Catalan Generalitat government and, at the same time, to preserve the rights of workers in the public sector of Catalonia,
  • the specific impetus for certain policies that both parties consider to be priorities at the present time.

These elements bolster the project for the country’s future, ambitious, transformative, committed to the Catalan language, to democratic values and to quality public services.

In this vein, agreements are to be updated and detailed, defining new milestones and objectives in their development, as well as defining priorities that require financing in the short and medium term.
