Esquerra Republicana de Catalunya, Basque EH Bildu, Plurinacional Sumar and the mixed Parliamentary group, including Podemos, Galician BNG and Valencian Compromís, have jointly called for Foreign, EU and Cooperation Minister Albares to appear immediately before the Spanish Congress.

The objective is for the minister to make a detailed statement on the decisions and actions to be taken by his department to protect and assist the vessels and personnel participating in the Global Sumud Flotilla, bound for Gaza for peaceful, humanitarian aims.

The groups making the request have warned that the flotilla has been attacked and its members detained by the State of Israel in acts they consider contrary to international law and the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.
