Esquerra, PSC, Junts, Comuns and CUP prompt Parliament to establish a committee on fascism, racism and hate speech

Parliamentary groups for socialist PSC i Units per Avançar, centre-right Junts, progressive Esquerra Republicana, and left-wing Comuns and CUP have jointly introduced a motion in the Catalan Parliament to establish a committee on fascism, racism and hate speech. The committee is to direct parliamentary business to promote a national pact against fascism, racism and hate speech, and establish instruments and mechanisms to combat them.

Given the increasing discourse against human rights that jeopardizes coexistence, social cohesion and democracy itself, the parliamentary commission will collate quantitative and qualitative information on the manifestation of these phenomena and will identify the most effective policies and mechanisms for social and political response.

The objective is to ascertain the environments where they originate, the channels through which they are broadcast and the people and groups to whom they address.

Likewise, the committee will make a joint effort to achieve a free, egalitarian and respectful environment in all areas, promoting respect for human rights.
