Esquerra leader Junqueras celebrates the CJEU Advocate General’s endorsement of premises Esquerra has always held

Esquerra’s leader expects the court to rule in favour of the amnesty law and criticises the “manifest” intention of Spain’s Supreme Court to prevent its application

Esquerra Republicana leader Oriol Junqueras today applauded the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) Advocate General’s endorsement of the amnesty law as “fully legal and compatible with community law,” thus supporting “the same premises that we have always held.” “We knew all of this, we knew for many years that there had never been any embezzlement, rebellion, or any of the accusations that have justified this judicial and criminal persecution,” Mr Junqueras said.

Mr Junqueras affirmed that he is confident that this favourable opinion of the amnesty law will be confirmed in the CJEU ruling, at which point a definitive judgement will be established by the court. This “would restore justice and what has been harmed by manifestly unjust decisions.” In this regard, Esquerra’s leader censured the Supreme Court orders to prevent the application of the law, accusing some spheres of the “judicial authorities” of acting as a “third legislative chamber modifying, preventing and vetoing the decisions of the legislative and executive powers.”
