Esquerra Republicana and EH Bildu meet in Donostia to address the new political term

Esquerra Republicana and EH Bildu communiqué

Esquerra Republicana and Basque pro-sovereignty party EH Bildu met on Monday morning at the latter’s headquarters in Donostia/San Sebastián to analyse and consider our responses to the complicated, disheartening situation in Spain and around the world.

The meeting was chaired jointly by the leaders of both political parties, Oriol Junqueras for Esquerra Republicana and Arnaldo Otegi for EH Bildu. Mr Junqueras was joined by his Secretary General Elisenda Alamany, and Deputy Secretary General Oriol López. The Basque pro-sovereignty leader was joined by his Secretary for Political Relations and Spanish Senate spokesperson Gorka Elejabarrieta, and Deputy Senate spokesperson and Political Bureau member Idurre Bideguren.

Esquerra Republicana and EH-Bildu are both pro-independence, left-wing sister parties of fellow nations, and we will always cooperate for both our projects to become stronger and to make our countries fairer and freer, principles that guide us both.

Esquerra Republicana and EH Bildu understand that we are at a crucial moment for the Catalan and Basque peoples, since the situation in Spain is going through a complex predicament. We are at a watershed where new challenges have arisen. In this regard, the Catalan and Basque parties have analysed the scenarios that may occur in the coming months.

Faced with the reactionary swell that is surging in Spain, we have agreed that the solution is more nation and more national construction. That has been the path taken when similar situations have come about. And that is how we will go about it, as we have always done, in the streets and at the institutions.
