Esquerra Republicana categorically condemns the genocide that the State of Israel has been carrying out in the Gaza Strip.

Esquerra Republicana strongly condemns the genocide that the State of Israel has been carrying out for too long in the Gaza Strip, a systematic and disproportionate assault on the Palestinian civilian population that has already caused tens of thousands of deaths, the majority of whom are civilians and many of them children. The destruction of all vital infrastructure, the attack on hospitals and the constant obstruction of the entry of humanitarian aid are facts that cannot only be considered war crimes but acts of genocide.

The international community cannot continue to turn a blind eye to this brutality. It is unacceptable that, while the Palestinian population is being massacred, many governments, including that of the Spain, maintain an ambiguous or passive attitude towards grave violations of human rights and international humanitarian law.

Esquerra Republicana encourages initiatives in favour of an arms embargo on Israel, and a considerable increase in humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip, including unconditional support for the work of UNRWA. We also support selective sanctions against members of the Israeli executive, including visa bans and freezing of assets, and the review of the EU-Israel Association Agreement. We commend the steps taken recently, including the approval by the Spanish Congress of an arms embargo on Israel and the express will to break relations with the State of Israel, but that is not enough.

We request that European and international institutions act forcefully and cease aiding and abetting this horror through their silence and inaction. Esquerra Republicana will always stand by oppressed peoples, for peace and liberty.
