Esquerra Republicana endorses the European election ticket headed by Diana Riba, with number two Tomàs Molina

Esquerra Republicana’s National Council has given the green light to the ticket for the European elections on 9 June. As announced a few weeks ago, Esquerra MEP Diana Riba will head the ticket, while physicist and meteorologist Tomàs Molina will be number two.

Diana Riba will thus lead Esquerra’a project for a free Catalonia within a more sustainable, just and feminist European Union. In this spirit, the incorporation of Tomàs Molina further bolsters the ecological commitment of the Esquerra Republicana project. As Mr Molina affirms, the meteorologist and staunch fighter against climate change has taken a step forward “with the determination that Catalonia is to work together for a hopeful and exciting future.”

Danish journalist and communicator Helle Kettner will be Esquerra’s number three for the European Parliament, chosen to represent the Camp de Tarragona county. She will be joined by Oriol Cases, Elisabet Nebreda and Jordi Navarra.

There will also be candidates from other Catalan Countries, such as Mikel Lorenzo from Valencia, among others. Menorcan Blanca Noguera will represent the Jovent Republicana youth branch after their National Council elected her last March to head their ticket. In addition, as in previous cases when members of Catalonia's Communists also joined Esquerra, this time it will be their Secretary for International Relations Arnau Piqué who will stand. Menorcan author and former president of the Insular Council Maite Salord will close the list as an independent, proposed by coalition member Ara Més.

The Esquerra Republicana ticket will be integrated in the Ara Repúbliques coalition, with Basque EH Bildu, Galician BNG and Balearics’ Ara Més.Thus, as Ms Riba asserted, “Ara Repúbliques is running in order to carry on the task of achieving stateless nations’ own states and to build more just, egalitarian and sustainable societies.”
