Esquerra Republicana prepares for the 2022 National Conference: “We mean to ready ourselves to meet the global challenges”

Esquerra is to set the ball rolling to project the party into the future, dealing with the present political situation, the policy priorities for the 2030 Agenda, and setting sights on 2040 and 2050

Esquerra Republicana will hold a National Conference in March 2022, at which a policy paper will be voted on to bring the party’s tenets up to date and to streamline its future strategy. Esquerra’s Deputy Secretary General for Prospective and Agenda 2030 Raül Romeva contends that this strategy is aligned with the objectives of sustainable development: “Not only do we want to project the national challenges as a country, but we also mean to ready ourselves to meet the global challenges.”

“We can give many reasons to answer why we want independence; the question we want to respond to in an explicit document is what we want independence for, what we want to do,” Mr Romeva explained at a press conference. The process of drafting this document, the paper, has already begun: “The initial draft is being written, and it will be submitted to the membership for discussion and amendment until a consolidated document is obtained.” In fact, a specific commission is working on it Mr Romeva explained.

The Deputy Secretary also revealed that the text will include three chapters: the present or circumstantial political situation; the policy priorities for 2030; and the horizon for 2040 and 2050, that is “the perspective of setting a global vocation for our organization and our country.”
