Esquerra’s Secretary for International Relations Adrià Guevara travelled recently to Montevideo, Uruguay to take part in the Fourth Meeting of the Red Futuro (Future Network), a nexus of emerging leaders in Latin America
This was the first time Esquerra took part in a meeting that brings together a new generation of politicians from across the continent once a year with the aim of strengthening ties and working on common strategies. This edition brought together Colombian Senator Maria José Pizarro, Uruguayan Secretary of the Presidency Pacha Sánchez, Ecuadorian Assemblyman Jahirien Noriega, and the Governor of Buenos Aires Axel Kicillof, among others.
As part of his trip to Uruguay, Mr Guevara took part in the events commemorating the 55th anniversary of the Frente Amplio party. He also held bilateral talks with Pacha Sánchez, the Uruguayan Secretary of the Presidency, as well as with several Frente Amplio and Movimiento de Participación Popular (MPP) members of the Chamber of Representatives at the National Assembly of Uruguay. He also had lunch with Lucía Topolansky, the former Uruguayan vice president and widow of José Mujica.
Esquerra Republicana has its sights set squarely on Latin America and is committed to participating in these fora of international solidarity in defence of sovereignty, fundamental rights and democracy, in the present very complex context in the face of Donald Trump’s threats jeopardising the stability of many countries in the region.
