Esquerra welcomes the news that the Catalan Audiovisual Media Corporation is to join the European Broadcasting Union

This is a decisive step towards the internationalization and strengthening of Catalan public media.

Esquerra’s Parliamentary Group welcomes the announcement made today by the president of Spain’s RTVE Corporation, in response to a request from our party, regarding the Catalan Audiovisual Media Corporation (CCMA) joining the European Broadcasting Union (EBU).

This step represents a significant breakthrough in the international recognition of Catalan public media and opens up new opportunities for its development in a global industry.

Esquerra’s member of the Spanish Congress Francesc-Marc Àlvaro highlighted that “in a sweet moment for the Catalan audiovisual industry, the quality of its productions is recognized throughout Europe and internationally, on an equal footing with the large corporations, and represents a huge step.” “In this regard, it also recognizes the driving role of the Catalan Audiovisual Media Corporation in the audiovisual field, in cinema, and in cultural productions in general” he concluded.

At Esquerra we celebrate this announcement, which may well mark a watershed moment in the field of Catalan public media. The incorporation into the EBU will lead to the CCMA:

  1. - Forming part of the largest public television media body in the world, guaranteeing the presence of Catalan in the international arena and consolidating its role in the global media landscape.
  2. - Accessing the exchange broadcasting rights, which will provide the CCMA with a greater ability to distribute content and access a wider audience beyond our borders.
  3. - Progressing in systems interoperability, allowing greater connectivity and collaboration among public media at an international level, facilitating the adaptation to new technologies and digital platforms.
  4. - Generating synergies with some of the leading broadcasters in the world, in research and innovation in telecommunications as well as in the development of new digital platforms and content services.

This agreement not only represents an achievement for Catalan public television, but also represents an opportunity to export the successful model of TV3 and other Catalan media beyond the borders of our country, increasing visibility and influence in the international arena. A milestone which undoubtedly drives the growth and recognition for our media at a European and international level, representing a victory for culture and informational plurality, essential to guarantee that the Catalan language and Catalan public media have a prominent role in the world.
