Jordi Solé re-elected Secretary General of the European Free Alliance

The Esquerra Republicana candidate was the most voted at the General Assembly of the European party held in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria

The election of the new executive took place during the General Assembly held on June 12, 13 and 14 in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. Lorena López Lacalle, a member of Eusko Alkartasuna, was elected president of the European Free Alliance, while Jordi Solé of Esquerra Republicana was elected Secretary General of the European Party. The newly elected executive consists of 15 members and will have a term of 3 years.

In addition, during the General Assembly, various motions concerning migration and language rights of minorities were approved, among others. In this regard, two motions made by Esquerra Reublicana criticizing the about-turn by the Spanish government on Western Sahara, which claims its right to self-determination. A second motion calling for measures to be taken regarding the high price of electricity in Spain also demanded the transition to renewable energy.

The European Free Alliance, the European political party of which Esquerra is a member, has 49 members from different stateless nations in the European Union who defend the right to self-determination of peoples, human rights and the rights of the minorities that make up the continent.

Finally, the declaration of Las Palmas was also signed at this year’s General Assembly, approving the creation of a forum of islands, and the candidacy of the Més per Menorca party as a full member of the ALE was accepted.
