Sara Bailac demands at the Ibero-American Parliamentary Forum that states apply the principle of subsidiarity and bring decision-making closer to citizens

Esquerra Republicana deputy spokesperson at the Spanish Senate participated recently in the 11th Ibero-American Parliamentary Forum held in the Dominican Republic

As a member of the delegation from the Spanish Senate and Congress, including spokespersons for the different parliamentary groups in the Upper House, deputy spokeswoman for Esquerra Sara Bailac took part in the 11th Ibero-American Parliamentary Forum, which is the preparatory meeting for the XXVIII Ibero-American Summit of Heads of State and Government to be held in Santo Domingo on 24 and 25 March, 2023.

Ms Bailac took part in the "Recovery with Restructuring" advisory table alongside representatives and senators from the Dominican Republic, Portugal and Argentina, where she highlighted the importance of states applying the principle of subsidiarity, bringing decision-making closer to the citizens. The concept has been included in the final conclusions of the advisory table.

In this regard, Ms Bailac emphasized that “an empowered citizenry is the basis of democracy,” and went on to explain the importance of promoting “a strong community spirit, providing greater social protection and fighting inequalities and all forms of discrimination.”

In the final conclusions of the "Recovery with Restructuring" table, 3 key ideas that have been defended by Esquerra Republicana’s deputy spokeswoman were also included: “Facing the crisis by promoting a better distribution of wealth, strengthening public services, guaranteeing the right to decent housing and adequately addressing women's rights.”

Finally, based on the final conclusions of the 4 advisory tables that were held at the 11th Ibero-American Parliamentary Forum, a document was drawn up and will be forwarded to the heads of state that will participate in the forthcoming “Ibero-American Summit of Heads of State and Government.”
