“The European Union’s inaction makes it an accomplice to the genocide in Gaza” says Esquerra Deputy Leader Diana Riba

Ms Riba demands suspension of relations with the government of Israel, the “total embargo” of arms, and “strong sanctions,” at the rally in support of the Global Sumud Flotilla in the port of Barcelona yesterday

Esquerra Republicana Deputy Leader and MEP Diana Riba demanded on Sunday the “immediate suspension of the association agreement between Israel and the European Union,” a “total arms embargo” and “strong sanctions” on the Israeli government “that is an outlaw regarding international law and Human Rights.” She spoke at the port of Barcelona during the rally in support of the Global Sumud Flotilla, which was to set off for Gaza with the aim of breaking the Israeli blockade on the Strip and to deliver humanitarian aid.

“Today, civil society and political parties are united in supporting this great civil mobilisation, a great march forward, opening this conduit of humanitarian aid to Gaza,” said Ms Riba, who denounced the “inaction of the European Union.” “We see international institutions that are completely silent, almost paralysed. And this makes them accomplices of this genocide that is being carried out,” she denounced.

An Esquerra Republicana representation took part in the rally supporting the Flotilla which, in addition to Ms Riba, was attended by party Leader Oriol Junqueras, Secretary General Elisenda Alamany, the Secretary for International Relations, Adrià Guevara, and Catalan Parliament Deputy Spokesperson Ana Balsera. In addition, Barcelona City Councillor and Secretary for Metropolitan Strategy on the National Executive, Jordi Coronas, is to form part of the crew on one of the ships as its captain.

“History always judges us. We will also be judged by future generations, and we will be judged according to where we stand in the face of this genocide,” warned Ms Riba, which is why she asked “everyone to stand on the side of life and dignity”.
